At present, all contracts with contractors for the respective activities have been concluded in accordance with the procedures of the Public Procurement Act, and work for the four sites within the scope of the project is to be started (item 3, item 4, item 5 and item 6). Prior to this, a press conference for the start of the project and a groundbreaking ceremony shall be held.

Haskovo Municipality starts the implementation of the project "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Systems for Street Lighting of Haskovo Municipality".

It has 100% grant funding under the Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security programme. The total value of the project is BGN 809,283.44. The partner of Haskovo Municipality is International Development Norway Association based in Norway.

The introductory press conference on the project Rehabilitation and Modernization of Systems for Street Lighting of Haskovo Municipality was attended by the Mayor of Haskovo Stanislav Dechev, Deputy Mayor Dinko Tenev, project manager Dayana Dobrikova, MEng. The Mayor of Haskovo Municipality, Stanislav Dechev. announced that in the next 6 months the following work will be carried out in the villages of Garvanovo, Vaglarovo, Klokotnitsa and Bolyarovo district:

✅Replacement of the existing street lighting fixtures with modern energy efficient LED lighting fixtures;

✅Installation of a system for management, control and monitoring of electricity consumption for street lighting;

✅Construction of a facility for production of energy from renewable energy sources for the needs of outdoor lighting.

After completion of the project, the costs for electricity in these villages and in the Bolyarovo district will decrease by 81.7%. This equates to 533.30 MWh/year, with an environmental equivalent of 629.26 tonnes of CO2 emissions / year saved.

The project will help improve the living conditions of nearly 3,000 residents in Haskovo Municipality. "The project is in line with our policy to reduce energy consumption and at this difficult time it is of extreme importance for Haskovo Municipality. Last but not least, this intelligent street lighting system will be built with a financial grant", said Mayor Stanislav Dechev.

The project manager, Dayana Dobrikova, MEng., announced that all project procedures have been completed so far, contractors have been selected and construction sites will be opened next week. "The project was developed in response to the policy of the Haskovo Municipality, in which the reduction of energy consumption, improvement of municipal infrastructure, improving quality of life and sustainable development are set as top priorities," said Dayana Dobrikova, MEng.

The project completion deadline is 8 September 2022.

On 31 January 2022 in the village of Garvanovo an official ceremony for the start of construction of the project "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Systems for Street Lighting of Haskovo Municipality" under the procedure "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Municipal Infrastructure - Outdoor Artificial Lighting Municipality Systems” - BGENERGY-2.001, Programme “Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Security”, European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 (EEA FM), was held.

The total value of the project is BGN 809,283.44, of which: EEA FM - BGN 687,890.93 and National Funding - BGN 121,392.51. Beneficiary of the project is Haskovo Municipality.

The event was attended by Mr. Stanislav Dechev, Mayor of Haskovo, Mr. Dinko Tenev, Deputy Mayor of Haskovo, mayors of the villages where the project will be implemented, representatives of the contractors, members of the project management team, municipal administration employees, mass media and citizens.

The mayor, Mr. Stanislav Dechev, pointed out that the implementation of the project would provide a good environment for the inhabitants and savings for Haskovo Municipality.

The aim of the project is to minimize energy consumption and increase the efficiency of energy resources as a result of the fruitful cooperation between representatives from Bulgaria and Norway.

The project implementation period is 18 months.

On 23.08.2022 and 24.08.2022 the two-day meeting - Activity "Expert exchange in Norway and Bulgaria" under the project "Rehabilitation and modernization of outdoor lighting systems in Haskovo Municipality“, BGENERGY-2.001-0077-015, was held.

Within the working forum, a seminar was held with the participation of Anders Stolan, consultant and representative of the project partner INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT NORWAY ASSOCIATION, Norway and Petya Nesheva from the Agency for Sustainable Energy Development, the project team from Haskovo Municipality, representatives of the localities where the project is being implemented, of educational institutions and others.

The progress of the project "Rehabilitation and modernization of outdoor lighting systems in Haskovo Municipality" was presented by the project manager Dayana Dobrikova, while the visiting partner from Norway shared good practices and solutions for energy efficiency for renewable energy and the opportunities for municipalities in Norway.

L. Chuchuleva, an energy efficiency expert from the project management team made a presentation on "Energy Efficiency of Buildings" to the participants, while Nadezhda Ivanova made a presentation on "Recovery and sustainability Plan".

On 24.08.2022 the project partners continued their work with a visit to the localities where the project "Rehabilitation and modernization of outdoor lighting systems in Haskovo Municipality" is being implemented.

In the villages of Garvanovo, Vuglarovo, and Klokotnitsa, and Bolyarovo district the existing street lighting fixtures have already been replaced with modern energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures; management, control and monitoring systems for street lighting electricity consumption have been put in place; and facilities for renewable energy production for the needs of outdoor lighting have been set up.
After that, a working meeting was held in Haskovo Municipality, where future joint initiatives and opportunities for long-term partnership between Haskovo Municipality and INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT NORWAY ASSOCIATION were discussed.

The official ceremony of completion and acceptance of the facilities implemented under the project "Rehabilitation and modernization of outdoor lighting systems in Haskovo Municipality" was held on 25.08.2022 in the village of Vaglarovo.

This is one of the localities where the street lighting fixtures were replaced with modern energy-efficient LED street lighting fixtures; management, control and monitoring systems for street lighting electricity consumption have been put in place; and facilities for renewable energy production for lighting needs have been set up.

"This is a complex and challenging project that put in place a new method of lighting in the villages of Garvanovo, Klokotnitsa, Vaglarovo, and in Bolyarovo district. Electricity costs in these villages and in the Bolyarovo district will already be nearly 82% lower, and we will see the results of these savings in the coming months. In addition, with the construction of lighting, green energy production and management systems, the quality of life and security of nearly three thousand residents of our municipality is directly improved," said Stanislav Dechev, mayor of Haskovo Municipality, minutes before the site was opened. He and the representative of the contractor company, Vladimir Valkov, cut the ceremonial ribbon, and the chief designer of the project, Iliya Ivanov, MEng, presented the advantages of the new lighting and power generation systems.
